SCHOOL INTERNSHIP PHASE II - WEEKLY REFLECTION 1 (12/06/2024 - 14/06/2024)
Week - 1 ( 12/60/2024 - 14/06/2024 )
As part of the BEd curriculum, we the second year trainees from Fathima Memorial Training College, Pallimukku were sent to different schools to be engaged in the first phase school internship programme. Three trainees from English optional were allowed to practice in Krist Raj Hss Kollam.
The second phase of our school internship programme commenced on June 12, 2024. We arrived at the school at 9:00 am and handed over the attendance register to the Headmaster of the school and met the concerned teachers who gave us the necessary instructions regarding the classes. A separate room was allotted for the trainees. The classes start at 9:30 am after the Morning Prayer. The working hours of the school were from 9:30am to 3:30pm. There are eight periods in a day. I was assigned to take class in Standard IX F and was given the timetable of the same.
After having a friendly talk with the students, I began the unit titled Hours and Years. Before beginning the unit, I gave the students a brief idea about the theme of the unit. I started the class by presenting a picture as an entry activity. Then I asked a few questions to the learners regarding the picture. Their answers were connected to the topic of discussion. Then the learners were given an activity. Their answers were checked and edited. The learners were asked to present their answers. The class was winded up with a follow up activity. The next day I began the chapter titled Half A Day. As an entry activity, I showed them a picture and asked some questions based on it. Their answers were connected to the topic of discussion. Then the title of the chapter was introduced to them. After that I read a few paragraphs of the chapter. The learners were asked to read silently and then share their ideas with peers. A few questions were asked related to the topic to check their level of understanding. The students responded actively. Then with the help of flashcards unfamiliar words with their meanings were introduced to them. A group activity was then given to the learners. The learners presented their answers and then a better version of the answer was given to them. Then the topic discussed in the class was recapitulated and a few questions were also asked to them. The classes were usually concluded with a follow – up activity which will be checked the next day. This method of teaching was followed everyday with slight variations throughout the week.
Every day I took one or two paragraphs from the lesson. I used teaching aids like charts and flashcards to make the classes interesting.
I believe I was able to make the students understand the passages well. Use of teaching aids helped me a lot to convey the meaning to the students.
