INNOVATIVE WORK REPORT
As part of the BEd curriculum,
the teacher trainees were required to present an innovative work on a topic
during the school internship phase. I prepared a detachable album as a learning
aid based on the topic ‘Poetic Devices’. The work was presented to the students
of class VIII F of Krist Raj HSS, Kollam.
The objective of this innovative work was to make
the students familiarize the concept of poetic devices and to enable the
learners understand the different poetics devices such as simile, metaphor,
personification, hyperbole, alliteration, onomatopoeia, imagery and rhyme.
The materials required for the making of the
detachable album are – chart papers (black and white colour), sketch pens,
markers, scissors, glue and thread.
The first step was to cut a black chart paper into
eight equal rectangular pieces. A white chart paper, smaller in size was then
stuck on it. An example of each poetic device along with its description and
pictures were stuck on it. The charts were then arranged and fastened together
with a thread in an attractive manner. The innovative work was ready for
presentation.
As mentioned above, the innovative work was introduced to
class VIII F. At first the learners were given a lecture based on poetic
devices using the innovative work. They were then divided into groups and each
group were handed a page of the album. The learners had to create sentences
based on the poetic devices they received. The answers were then corrected. The
learners were made to read out the different sentences they prepared.
The innovative work mentioned above helped a lot to
make the learners understand the topic. The learners participated with great
enthusiasm in the activities given to them. They were very much attracted by
the creative presentation of the poetic devices. This work has not only sparked
the interest of the learners but also helped the teacher to explain the concept
of ‘Poetic Devices’ to the class in an amazing and interesting manner.
